The honest answer to your skepticism
Back pain, restless nights and the feeling of not waking up feeling rested – many people are familiar with this situation. As soon as the topic of waterbeds comes up, skepticism usually follows: “It’ll burst!”, “It’ll make me sick!” or “It’s a relic from the 80s.” We at Schlafpunkt have been aware of these reservations for over 30 years. Our promise: We provide honest advice without any sales pressure. Instead of myths, we provide facts – so that you can make a clear and informed decision.
Myths vs. modern reality – The 5 biggest misconceptions
Myth 1: Waterbeds burst and flood the bedroom
Wrong. High-quality systems are made of vinyl up to 20 mm thick and are also embedded in a safety tray. In over 30 years of experience with Schlafpunkt, there has not been a single total loss.
Myth 2: You get seasick because the bed sways
That may have been the case in the past. Today, three firmness levels eliminate up to 95% of movement. A waterbed moves even less than many spring mattresses.
Myth 3: Waterbeds are too warm and sweaty
The temperature can be set individually between 20 and 37 °C. It can be pleasantly cool in summer and comfortably warm in winter – just as you prefer.
Myth 4: Maintenance is far too expensive
The heating costs are CHF 18-28 per month. That’s less than a Netflix subscription.
Myth 5: Waterbeds are an outdated 80s trend
Wrong. Around 300,000 people in Switzerland sleep in a waterbed. Modern technology has nothing in common with the old systems.
The facts in figures
- Acquisition costs: from approx. CHF 7,000 (e.g. Aqua Dynamic double bed)
